Home to fossil-bearing rocks dating back billions of years, China is renowned for its enormously rich paleontological history. The Center for Chinese Fossil Discoveries, a joint venture between the Dinosaur Institute of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and the Department of Earth Sciences of the University of Southern California, coordinates research programs focused on Chinese fossil discoveries, including the research programs of several professors at USC and curators at the NHM. With a mission of research and education, the Center aims to support graduate students and postdoctoral fellows (Chinese and American), and to establish collaborative research programs with universities and museums in China. The Center also fosters educational opportunities that promote awareness of the spectacular paleontological resources of China and emphasize the role these fossils play in answering fundamental paleobiological questions. As part of its educational mission, the Center promotes and sponsors public programs such as symposia, speaker series, and exhibits that provide public exposure to science, paleobiology, and the magnificent fossil treasures of China.
